DEATH OF AN ELEPHANT

by Trevor Preston

Landor Theatre, Clapham North
18 April - 5 May 2007

Dear old Ada sees elephants in the park. So does the mentally challenged Art, given time. The Park is a hierarchy run with a rod of iron by Clackett, an obsessive ex-soldier. His one obsession is to get rid of Kite, his bonking, butchering Number Two. But Kite has ambitions of his own. He wants the park as his kingdom so Clackett will have to go. Meanwhile, a hot young Lola wants sex with Kite, and Lola gets it, plus a lot more than she bargained for. Sparrow is a novice parkie. His aim in life is to become his hero Kite, but so far he hasn't even got a uniform. Suddenly an elephant actually appears. The Park is turned on its head. Murder, suicide and necrophilia pile one on the other. Kite is responsible for most of it. But the God of vengeance has its day and while Kite burns in the fires of hell, Sparrow gets his uniform, Art and Ada are transported happily to the heart of Africa to a trumpeting choir of elephants rejoicing.
